HOW DOES MINDFUL MEDITATION IMPROVE DAILY EXPERIENCE?

The Profound Benefits of Mindfulness: Regular mindfulness practice cultivates three (3) core skills:

ACCEPTANCE: The ability to ‘be with’ experience with an attitude of gentle matter-of-factness (go with the flow).

SELF-REGULATION: ability to focus and stabilise one’s attention (trained mind).

 

AWARENESS: The ability to keep track of the components of sensory experience as they arise in various combinations, moment-by-moment (aware, present).

As a result, mindfulness practice adds meaning & quality to daily experience, through establishing and/or enhancing the following attitudes:

LETTING GO

It is the exact opposite of “ruminative thinking” (the tendency to dwell on the same thought or theme) which creates low moods that persist and return.

LABELING THOUGHTS

Teaches to attach labels to thoughts, to detach from external & internal ‘noise’. You are experiencing an event/emotion – you are not that event/emotion.

REALITY CHECK

Teaches that thoughts are thoughts, not facts.

NON-JUDGEMENT 

Teaches to just be aware instead of judging.

COMPASSION

Teaches self-compassion as well as compassion to experience and others.

Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.
